Overview
A leading U.S. retailer partnered with Liveops to deploy LiveNexus REVEAL, a browser-based compliance and risk management extension, across its contact center operations. Contact center agents handle high volumes of discount and price adjustment transactions daily, operating within complex client policies that the retailer’s own systems were not designed to enforce at the agent level. LiveNexus REVEAL was deployed to close that gap: ensuring agents stayed within policy boundaries, surfacing risky behavioral patterns early, and giving compliance teams real-time visibility they had never had before.
The tool was deployed during peak retail season when transaction volumes and compliance pressure are at their highest. LiveNexus REVEAL monitored 46,244 events across 18,417 cases, engaged 496 agents whose activity warranted review, and blocked $230,735 in transactions that fell outside client policy before they could be processed.
Key challenges
The retailer’s contact center agents are authorized to apply discounts and price adjustments as part of legitimate service recovery and retention workflows. This is a necessary and valued capability, but one that is difficult to govern at scale. The retailer’s own platforms lacked the ability to enforce policy limits in real time, meaning that compliance relied on periodic audits, supervisor spot-checks, and after-the-fact reporting.
This created a gap between policy intent and operational reality. Agents operating at high volume, under productivity pressure, and across multiple systems could drift outside policy boundaries, not always intentionally, but consistently enough to create material financial exposure for the client. Liveops needed a way to:
- Monitor every discount and price adjustment transaction as it happened
- Enforce the client’s policy thresholds automatically, without disrupting legitimate workflows
- Identify agents whose behavioral patterns suggested elevated risk
- Act on those signals immediately, rather than days or weeks later
The Liveops solution
LiveNexus REVEAL is a browser extension that operates directly within the agent’s existing workflow. It requires no changes to the client’s underlying systems and no disruption to how agents work. By sitting at the point of transaction, LiveNexus REVEAL applies compliance logic in real time, before a non-compliant action is completed, not after.
For this engagement, LiveNexus REVEAL was configured with two core policy controls and an adaptive risk alerting system.
Policy Controls
Control 1 — Cumulative discount threshold Agents whose total applied discounts reached $1,000 within a rolling one-hour window were flagged for review. This threshold was actively refined during the engagement based on real transaction data, — originally set at $5,000, revised to $3,000 following review by the compliance SME, and ultimately tightened to $1,000 as the team developed a clearer picture of normal versus elevated activity. This iterative calibration is a key strength of LiveNexus REVEAL: policy can evolve quickly as understanding deepens, with changes taking effect immediately across the entire agent population.
Control 2 — High-discount transaction frequency Agents who processed five or more transactions with discounts exceeding 90% within any 30-minute window were flagged. This control was designed to catch patterns of concentrated discount activity that might not trigger the dollar threshold but nonetheless fall outside expected policy behavior.
Adaptive Risk Alerting
Beyond threshold-based controls, LiveNexus REVEAL’s spike detection logic monitored for agents whose risk profiles shifted rapidly over time, an early signal of emerging behavioral patterns that warrant closer review.
Risk rank-based alerts triggered when an agent moved more than 10 rank positions since their last alert, 20 positions within 6 hours, or 30 positions within a single day.
Volume-based alerts triggered when an agent’s alert count rose more than 50% since the prior alert, the increase exceeded 10 alerts in absolute terms, and the agent had accumulated at least 10 alerts within a 24-hour window.
Together, these controls gave compliance teams a layered view of agent behavior, catching both discrete policy breaches and broader patterns of elevated risk.
Automated Policy Enforcement
Following review and compliance approval, LiveNexus REVEAL was configured with two layers of automated enforcement:
Transaction blocking — transactions that fell outside client policy thresholds were automatically blocked before processing, removing the dependency on manual intervention and ensuring consistent enforcement at scale.
Agent deactivation — in cases where real-time behavioral signals indicated a pattern of serious policy violations, LiveNexus REVEAL was authorized to automatically deactivate the agent’s access immediately. This capability, approved by the client’s compliance team, eliminated the window between detection and response that had previously allowed non-compliant activity to continue unchecked. Agents could be reviewed and reinstated through a defined process, ensuring that enforcement was swift but not irreversible.
The end result
Deployed during peak retail season, LiveNexus REVEAL delivered the following outcomes:

Key Findings
Policy gaps were systematic, not isolated. Across 18,417 cases, 496 agents had activity flagged for review, reflecting how difficult it is to maintain consistent policy adherence at scale without automated enforcement tools. The volume of signatures required (36,651) points to how frequently transactions fell into gray areas that required human judgment, and how much compliance burden had previously gone unmanaged.
$230,735 in out-of-policy transactions were blocked before processing. Against a total monitored order volume of $2.5M, LiveNexus REVEAL intercepted roughly 9 cents of every dollar processed, during the period of highest transaction volume, when the risk of policy drift is greatest.
Risk signals were granular and actionable. The combination of threshold controls and spike detection gave compliance teams visibility into both acute policy breaches and gradual behavioral shifts, enabling intervention before patterns escalated rather than after the fact.
Policy calibration was continuous and data-driven. The progression from a $5,000 threshold to $3,000 to $1,000 was not arbitrary, it was driven by what the data revealed about how agents actually behaved. REVEAL made this kind of iterative, evidence-based policy refinement possible in a way that manual auditing never could.

By the time a traditional audit surfaces a compliance issue, the transaction has already been processed, the customer has already received the discount, and the financial impact has already been absorbed.
