Many people with disabilities or health challenges struggle to find traditional jobs that meet their needs and sadly this includes many of our returning veterans. They have so much talent to offer, but commuting, rigid schedules and conforming to a standard office can be difficult obstacles to overcome. Even going on an interview can be a challenge.

The growth of flexible, remote work offers an amazing opportunity for people who need more independence than traditional jobs offer.   1. Look for remote work or work from home positions

    Many companies are embracing remote work options as a way to find top talent regardless of geographic location. Opportunities are available in almost every industry. Look for companies with a widely-distributed and well-established remote work force and use these tips to avoid work from home scams.

  2. Look for work that can be done remotely

    If you don’t find a remote opportunity that is a good fit for you, your next best bet if to look jobs that could potentially be done remotely – writing, graphic design, data entry/analysis, etc. Companies are often willing to accommodate a strong candidate, so don’t be afraid to apply and use the interview to ask about their flexwork policies.

  3. Use the resources available to you

    Talk with support groups, social workers, friends and family. They may know of companies with work for veterans and people with disabilities or be able to provide a personal referral.
